Vehicle Body Analysis

A PU mini probe array offers a unique single transducer based solution for multi purpose vehicle body chassis analysis. It combines and surpasses the merits of both mini accelerometers and laser-vibrometers as they are used until now.

These two measurement techniques detect the positions where vibrations occur, i.e they measure the structural velocity. However, there is a growing need to determine whether sound is radiated from this positions or not as well!

Vehicle body chassis analysis is normally applied in order to detect the structural vibrations on the exterior of a vehicle body.

A laser-vibrometer is often used, measuring contactless and fast (but sequentially) a large number of measurement points in a stationary situation. Where no line of sight for the laser-beam is available, (30% of the measurement points) often mini-accelerometers are used. A cabling issue remains. It remains a hybrid type of measurement, involving two types of transducers.

But apart from practical considerations, the measurement procedure is not capable of discriminating structural vibrations that do or do not radiate sound.

The use of an array of PU mini probe array offers:
  • A portable, reconfigurable, compact and multi purpose single transducer solution

  • Capturing all three measurable quantities, structural velocity, particle velocity and pressure in a non contact manner
  • Capable of discriminating between structural vibrations that do or do not radiate sound
  • Capable of measuring instationary sources
