Atlas Weathering Simulation Systems

Atlas Weathering Services Group (AWSG)

Atlas Weathering Services Group (AWSG) is a global network of material testing and evaluation laboratories. AWSG is a division of Atlas Material Testing Technology LLC, a world leader in materials durability testing for over 85 years.

The increased demand for getting decision-making data as fast as possible makes more and more companies turn to accelerated weathering. But no accelerated weathering program can be complete without the confirmation from and correlation to natural weathering. Natural weathering provides the data you need to ensure that your product is covered against costly liability issues. Atlas has pioneered outdoor accelerated testing since their development of the Trac Rac® in the early 1900s. AWSG, primarily at its DSET Laboratories site in Phoenix, offers the variety of outdoor accelerated services that are listed below.

EMMAQUA® and Temperature Controlled EMMAQUA®
EMMAQUA is unique in that it concentrates natural sunlight via 10 highly reflective, specially coated mirrors onto the specimen target area with an intensity of approximately eight suns. The device tracks the sun and exposes specimens to the full spectrum of sunlight, making it one of the most realistic accelerated tests available. And because EMMAQUA provides an excellent spectral match to sunlight, it correlates well to subtropical conditions, such as Southern Florida, as well as an arid desert environment, such as Arizona. The test apparatus is a follow-the-sun rack with mirrors positioned as tangents to simulate a parabolic trough. Atlas now offers a solution to control temperature for the EMMAQUA.

The IP/DP (Instrument Panel/Door Panel) Box® offers an accelerated temperature limiting under glass weathering method to determine the durability and/or colourfastness [remove hyphen/colourfastness is one word] of many materials. This box simulates the conditions found in the interior of an automobile. It is used primarily but not exclusively for automotive interiors. Various types of windshield or side window glass can be installed for evaluating the effects of different types of glass on automotive interior components. Colour, gloss measurements and visual inspections are performed at intervals according to applicable test standards or client specifications.

The CTH-Glas Trac™ (Controlled Temperature and Humidity, Under Glass, Sun Tracking) was designed primarily for determining the durability of automotive interior materials. This test method incorporates temperature and humidity control in an outdoor weathering chamber glazed with automotive side window glass. This cover is interchangeable with various windshield types to provide flexibility in product development. An automatic two-axis tracking system maintains the chamber at normal incidence to the sun for maximum solar irradiance.
