G-Cap 2 Capacitive RH Sensor

PDF Datasheet | Request Info

The GE Industrial Systems' G-CAP 2 Relative Humidity Sensor is a low-cost, polymer capacitive based sensor, factory calibrated to within 1 picofarad (pf), +/- 3% RH accuracy. The result is an RH sensing element with uniform calibration and inter-changeability among sensors of better than 3% RH. Competitive RH sensors, in contrast, have varied by as much as 40% from unit to unit. These wide variances require time-consuming calibration that adversely affects manufacturing costs and scheduling. For this reason, the G-CAP is ideally suited for high volume applications, reducing the time required for final assembly and production calibration. Savings can also be appreciated from the simple and low-cost circuitry required for the G-CAP 2 sensor.

The G-CAP 2 sensor can be used in automotive, data-loggers, consumer appliances, residential HVAC controls, medical instrumentation, etc. The sensing element consists of a proprietary electrode metallization deposited over the humidity sensitive polymer. This allows rapid diffusion of water vapor, which speeds up drying and makes recalibration easy. The properties of the film allow the sensor to survive total immersion in water with no loss of accuracy.

Features and Benefits:

  • Inter-changeability better than 3%

  • Survives 100% RH

  • Temperature coefficient less than 0.05% RH/ºF

  • Linearity better than +/-2%

  • Innovative packaging for improved performance

  • Economical

  • Alternative mounting configurations

  • Calibrated (G-Cap-C) or un-calibrated (G-Cap-U) versions
