Features & Benefits

  • A melt indexer with a modular base for the automatic measurement of MFR (g/10 min) and MVR (cm3/10 min) at temperatures from 30°C to 400°C (optionally 500°C).

  • The base instrument has a microprocessor for automatic control of the operations, storage of the test parameters, storage of up to 40 measurement points, and up to 25 test procedures.

  • Standard functions include auto-calibration, calculation and display of rheological data, operative checks and alarms, security passwords, a swinging weight platform for easy cleaning and USB ports for PC and Printer connection.

  • Optional equipment can be added to the base, either at time of purchase or at a later date, directly by the customer at their location.

  • Options include an encoder for measuring piston travel, a weight lifter, and an automatic extrudate cutting device.

  • Can be used with Ceast VisualMELT software.

  • Multiple weight tests can be performed with Modular Melt Flow (code 7027.000)

CEAST product range for rheological investigation on polymers include several instrument and in particular a Modular Line of Melt Indexer, specifically designed for the easy and accurate measuring of the Melt Flow Rate (MFR) and Melt Volume Rate (MVR), fundamental properties of any thermoplastic material. For a more complete characterization of the rheological behaviour of materials CEAST is proposing a complete line of Capillary Rheometers, a floor model and also a new advanced bench top series specifically designed for R&D, process evaluations (injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding) but also for acceptance Quality Control on the incoming materials.

Base Model (code 7023.000): This is the basic unit developed to perform tests according to ASTM D 1238 and ISO 1133 Method A (Melt Flow Rate “MFR”), gravitational method: perform the test, cut the extrudate on acoustical prompt by instrument (after a set time), and weigh the extrudate to calculate the results.

Enhanced Models (codes 7024.000, 7025.000, 7026.000): For performing tests according to ASTM D 1238 and ISO 1133 Methods A and B
(Melt Flow Index “MFI” and Melt Volume Rate “MVR”) gravitational and volumetric methods: the instrument measures the travel of the piston in the barrel; knowing the cross section area it calculates the volume of material expelled through the orifice over time; knowing the melt density (inserted by the operator) it calculates the weight of the extrudate.

Multiple Tests Model (code 7027.000): A single test can be performed with one, two or three test weights in increasing OR decreasing weight order. Initial rheological data can be gained from these tests, including the shear sensitivity and the initial points of the rheologic curve.
