Features & Benefits The falling sand test is perhaps the simplest method of testing abrasion. Standardised sand (ottowa sand) is released and guided onto the test specimen. The volume of sand required to obtain total erosion of a known coating thickness indicates the abrasion resistance.

Standardized sand placed in the reservoir is released and guided by the tube onto the test specimen, positioned at a 45° angle and at a distance of 25mm from the lower aperture of the tube. The volume of sand required to obtain total erosion of the coating of a known thickness in an area of approximately 4 mm (0.16”) diameter with respect to the thickness of the coating, indicates the abrasion resistance.
