  • The patented design of the Modally Tuned Impact Hammer eliminates hammer resonances from your test results while reducing double impacts. A Modally Tuned hammer functions to transfer force into an electrical signal for display and analysis. Similar to that of random excitation, the frequency spectrum of a time domain impulse is nearly flat over a broad, yet specified, frequency range.

  • It follows that a simple impact is capable of exciting all structural resonances within the specified range.
Since it is the shape of the impact pulse that governs the frequency content, the hammer can be set up to tailor the frequency range. A variety of tip hardnesses and mass extenders are supplied with each Modally Tuned Impact Hammer.

  • Hard tips and low mass hammers provide short duration impacts while softer tips and mass extenders are used to broaden the impact pulse. A short duration or sharp pulse in the time domain results in a higher, flat-line frequency content characteristic than a broad pulse in the time domain.
